The Youth Chinese Test, also known as the YCT, is an international standardized examination designed to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers. Introduction

The Youth Chinese Test serves several purposes. It not only evaluates the language proficiency of young learners but also encourages them to continue learning Chinese by providing a tangible goal and incentive. Additionally, the test can help students prepare for further Chinese language studies, such as the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) exams, which are designed for adult learners.

The Youth Chinese Test is an essential tool for assessing the Chinese language proficiency of young learners worldwide. It promotes the learning of Chinese language and culture among children and teenagers, fostering international communication and understanding. Test Levels

The YCT consists of four different levels, categorized by the examinee's age group and language proficiency.

YCT (Level I)

YCT (Level I) - suitable for children aged 4 to 7, with approximately 80 vocabulary words and phrases.Test takers who are able to pass the YCT (Level I) can understand and use some of the most common Chinese phrases and sentences and possess the ability to further their Chinese language studies.

YCT (Level II)

YCT (Level II) - appropriate for children aged 8 to 11, covering around 150 vocabulary words and phrases.Test takers who are able to pass the YCT (Level II) can understand and use some simple Chinese phrases and sentences and cope with basic level communications.

YCT (Level III)

YCT (Level III) - designed for children aged 12 to 15, and testing approximately 300 vocabulary words and phrases.Test takers who are able to pass the YCT (Level III), having reached an excellent level in basic Chinese, can communicate on familiar daily topics in a simple manner.

YCT (Level IV)

YCT (Level IV) - the highest level, for teenagers aged 16 to 18, assessing a vocabulary of around 600 words and phrases.Test takers who are able to pass the YCT (Level IV) can communicate in Chinese at a basic level in their daily, academic and professional lives. When travelling in China, they can manage most forms of communication in Chinese.


Test Content

The test is structured into three sections: listening, reading and writing comprehension. Each section is designed to evaluate the examinee's ability to understand, interpret, and use Chinese in various contexts.

Listening Comprehension

The recording of each question will be played during the test. For each item, phrases and some pictures will be provided. The test takers should choose a picture that best corresponds with the phrase based on what they hear.

Reading Comprehension

Phrases, pictures, or incomplete dialogue will be provided,the test taker needs to choose the best answer.

Writing

The test taker are required to construct a sentence using words provided or fill in the blanks with the right characters.


Test Result

The results of YCT are valid for a considerable period of time. Four results will be provided for the YCT (Level I),) including listening, reading, writing and the total. A score of 180 or more is considered a passing score.
